Happy (Belated) Birthday, Dazzy Vance

DazzyVancePic3By Glen Sparks

Well, this is embarrassing. I go and name this blog after Dazzy Vance and then I miss his birthday. Born on March 4, 1891, Vance today would be … the oldest person in the world at 124 years old.

Really, if he could, he probably would be heaving fastballs and breaking balls and spending his off-time in the woods or  a near a lake, hunting and fishing. Vance was quite the outdoorsman.

On this occasion, I am linking to my early post about Vance, the one that explains how a fun-loving, sore-armed right-hander went on to become a Hall of Fame pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Thanks, at least in part, to a poker game in New Orleans.
